About us
Experienced chef's Peter Conlin and his partner Jayne Barton have taken over running the Timothy Taylor owned Cross Roads Inn at Wainstalls. Looking for a fresh challenge the couple have moved North from the New Forest where Peter was Executive Chef for Pebble Hotels and Jayne was the head chef at the famous forest inn, The High Corner. Initially he will take charge of the kitchen, whilst Jayne takes care of all the front of house needs.
Quality fresh pub food with a twist is their promise as they introduces their own style of cooking and look to build the Cross Roads' reputation as a destination pub for all the family. Peter said "With three children of our own, we are keen to encourage families and with this in mind the emphasis will be very much on value for money food. The pub offers excellent accommodation with six recently refurbished en-suite guest rooms, which we are keen to promote" Other plans include developing the garden area for when the better weather comes and promoting outside seasonal events.
Jayne commented, "We are both very excited about our new challenge. As soon as we saw the Cross Roads we knew it was for us." Explaining the move North she added, "We are friendly with Alan and Maxine Dyson who run a local Timothy Taylor pub at Thornton near Bradford, and as Peter is a "monkeyhanger" from Hartlepool, he is keen to move back to cooler climes".
Set high on the Pennine moors between Halifax and Hebden Bridge the Cross Roads is an ideal base for exploring the magnificent surrounding countryside. A welcoming log burning fire greets visitors on cold days and this is matched by the warmth of the welcome from Peter and Jayne.
Timothy Taylor Tied Estate Manager, Andrew Daykin said, "Peter and Jayne have run a number of successful pubs and with their professionalism and enthusiasm I'm sure the Cross Roads will go from strength to strength. Everyone at Timothy Taylor wishes them the very best of success."
